"The location of Baltic upon the banks of the Big Sioux River, with its water power, surrounded by rich farming country, makes it a good business point and has increased its population and commercial importance."  These comments quoted in 1899 by Dana Baily are applicable today.

Baltic is a progressive community with approximately 950 friendly citizens and is located about 15 miles north of Sioux Falls, SD.

City History

Baltic's Centennial was celebrated in 1981. A "brief historical account about the various businesses and organizations of Baltic" was compiled by Donald L. Prestbo and published in booklet form. Portions of that booklet will be quoted here to provide residents and visitors an opportunity to learn more about the City of Baltic.
